In 2014 WRTP/BIG STEP expanded its services to provide training opportunities for careers in construction and manufacturing in Madison and the greater south central Wisconsin area. Committed to helping recruit, prepare, and funnel a diverse population of workers into family-sustaining careers throughout Wisconsin, WRTP/BIG STEP leverages its strong community and industry partnerships to address some of Madison’s most serious challenges.
WRTP/BIG STEP’s primary objectives include strengthening pathways for both youth and adults to careers in construction and manufacturing, providing community outreach in the form of career exploration and assessments, and promoting a multi-generational approach to addressing poverty and inequality at the neighborhood level.

Madison Construction Readiness Orientation
On the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month, WRTP/BIG STEP offers an introduction to careers in the skilled trades at the Madison College South Campus at 2238 S. Park Street. These orientation sessions are perfect for anyone interested in learning more about the skilled trades and career opportunities in the construction industry.

To help recruit, develop, and retain a more diverse, qualified workforce in the Madison area, WRTP/BIG STEP has formed a steering committee made up of industry and community leaders in Dane County. The committee includes:
